22 Feb 2004

Hi guys and welcome to another packed edition of your favourite Transformers newsletter, produced completely free of charge by those nice, toy lovin' folks at TheyAreAmongUs.com in Australia.

You may have noticed that we haven't put an issue out for a few weeks now, so apologies if you've been suffering from separation anxiety, but our editorial team needed a little time off over New Year to visit family and friends, catch up on personal projects and just sit under the nearest air conditioner and cool off in this crazy Summer heat! So hope you haven't been going too stir crazy without us but you can ease up on your chain smoking now and put the bottle of Southern Comfort away, because we're back, we're here for you and "we're listening."

ENERGON OMEGA SUPREME PICTURES

One of the favourite G1 'big guy' bots, Omega Supreme, is finally making his return in the Energon series. Most people remember Omega as the large Autobot with rail tracks strapped to his back, a chunky claw hand and the classic alt mode of a base. So what is the new Energon Omega Supreme like? Blurry pictures hinted suggestions, but recently released clear images have emerged, allowing us to finally get a good look at the guy!

ATARI PS2 GAME PREVIEW EVENT

As announced on the TAAU boards by one of Melbourne House's PS2 game developers, Desert Dog - which can be seen right here - Atari put on a huge show in Alameda, California on Tuesday, February 10 to promote their up-coming 'Transformers' computer game.

The spectacular event was held, believe it or not, on the gigantic USS Hornet Air Craft Carrier which was docked at the port, and the night included stage shows, music from band, Dropbox, game kiosks and discussions with the game developers themselves.

One US-based Transformers site, TFormers.com were lucky enough to attend the extravaganza and have posted a write-up and huge photo gallery of the evening right here.

PALISADES LINE SHRINKS

Before you get too upset, it’s not as bad as it seems.

Palisades will still be releasing a wide range of Transformers statues, however the statues' actual size will decrease. I am not overly ecstatic about the decision, but in order to help sweeten the deal they have delivered pictures of the new Grimlock Statue, so let's give them the benefit of the doubt and hear what they have to say:

DODGE CARS: THE UNOFFICIAL SPONSOR OF ALTERNATORS?

It looks like the Dodge car company might be making another appearance in the Transformers: Alternators line. In an article from a Marketing publication, Brandweek, Hollie Holmes - an employee from Brand Sense (The agency representing Hasbro on the Alternators venture) - has confirmed that they are in negotiations with Dodge to produce two more Dodge oriented Alternators. The two models that are being negotiated are the Dodge Neon SRT-4 and the new Dodge Ram Pickup.

REPRODUCTION STICKERS AND PARTS FOR YOUR TRANSFORMERS

If you own any original G1 figures then chances are your toys will be suffering from the same problems as the rest of our bots: sticker wear. Even after 20 years of being mint in their boxes, your stickers may still be fading and loosing their 'stickiness'.

TAAU MEMBER INTERVIEW 003: AUTOPLEX

In this issue we are lucky enough to hear from one of TAAU's youngest and most infamous members, Autoplex, who was kind enough to take a few minutes out of his busy schedule to sit down and have a chat over an ice cold orange juice.

TAAU CHAT V2.0 LAUNCHES

Because I know how many of you love TAAU's Chat feature, but were a little frustrated with the 'server push' method used in the old version which constantly refreshed your screens - using up a lot of bandwidth, slowing your connections down and only displaying messages every couple of seconds - I have thus decided to ditch it and upgrade big time!

So, after a lot of implementation work, I am now very proud to announce TAAU Chat V2.0; a completely new application with a very powerful Java backend which requires no constant screen refreshing and delivers messages instantly, so there is no lag what-so-ever! This baby is even faster than IRC, you just have to see it to believe it!

TAAU AWARDS NIGHT

Well, it's fast approaching that time of the year again! No, I'm not talking about Canned Food Month, National Embroidery Month or National Wild Bird Feeding Month, although, believe it or not, those things are being celebrated in the US right now; no, I'm talking about TAAU's annual Message Board awards!

TAAU GAINS SITE SPONSORSHIP

Good news people, TAAU is joining the big leagues! With around 1000 unique visitors a week coming to the main site now, a message board which has grown to well over 150mb in size as a result of the 50,000+ posts its received, plus downloads, streaming chat software and a newly created microsite to host the online version of our html-enabled newsletter, I've had to upgrade my hosting a number of times since I launched in 2001, and am now the proud owner of a package which boasts over 1gb of web space and virtually unlimited bandwidth.

However, such things don't come without a price, and for the past year I've had to pay well over $1000 for this setup, which, as you can imagine, ain't been easy for this humble web designer, despite offers by Blaster and Crank to donate money to keep it going (thanks for thinking of me guys!).

TAAU is proud to announce our first competition partnership with our new site sponsor, CaseFresh.com, who wanted to donate this prize as a kind of 'Hi guys, we're excited to be here and it's good to meet you all' type deal, so everyone, this is Cash Fresh, and Case Fresh, this is everyone!

Their welcome involvement this month allows us to jointly bring you a fantastic prize, which is an entire wave 5 Heroes of Cybertron set consisting of Starscream with crown, Megatron with Laserbeak, Optimus Prime with Communicator, Omega Supreme, Devastator, Ratchet and bonus figure, Metroplex!
