ATARI TO TRANSFORM ARMADA
As many of you know, Australian development company Melbourne House have been working on a new PS2 game based on the Transformers: Armada series. The game, entitled 'Transformers' (formerly known as ‘Transformers Armada: Prelude to Energon’), has been in the works for the last year or so now, but is finally due to be released in early May.
The title is being distributed by Atari - who recently launched the game's official UK web site - and fans couldn’t be happier, with many of us drooling over the many stunning screenshots and trailers which have been released over the past few months.
Melbourne House have done a fantastic job of bringing the TV characters to 'life', however in a recent interview they stated that the game has moved away from the TV series slighty, opting instead for a more ‘military hardware’ look while offering more intense, realistic gameplay. The landscapes and battles will be something to behold if the many videos available on Atari Australia’s website are anything to go by, and if the fantastic scenery and metal crushing battles weren’t enough, both David Kaye (Voice of Megatron) and Gary Chalk (Voice of Optimus Prime) will be featured in the game!
You can play the game as one of three Autobots: Red Alert, Hot Shot, and, of course, Optimus Prime. Much like many RPG based games, each character has their own good and bad points.
OPTIMUS PRIME: Is the biggest and heaviest playable character in the game. He is most suited to heavy combat, as he can attach with the more powerful mini-cons. Although the slowest character, his vehicle mode is also a great weapon, as he is bulky and powerful in this mode and so can smash through parts of the landscape, and even through a group of Decepticons.
RED ALERT: Is probably the most balanced in the game. He has good defensive capabilities and when in vehicle mode, has good traction and grip for bashing through the landscapes.
HOTSHOT: Is the quickest and the lightest of the playable characters. In his vehicle mode, he can speed through the landscape and jump over the largest jumps. In robot mode, he can run circles around the Decepticons with his speed.
One of the big pluses in this game is that you will be able to transform whenever you like. Although most players will probably stay in robot mode for most of the game, there will be areas which will require the player to utilise the vehicle mode.
Features of the game include:
• Allowing the player to choose which character they wish to use on each mission. Battling to collect Mini-Cons, allowing the player to improve combat abilities against Megatron’s Decepticlone army • Taking part in the age old Autobot Vs Decepticon war. • Allowing the player to explore the landscapes in either vehicle or robot mode. • An entire arsenal of weapons for combat
So far the only downside I can see is that it's only going to be released on Playstation 2, and as I only have a Gamecube, I might have trouble playing it, so I guess it’s time to go out and buy a Playstation then! :)
'Transformers' will be released in Australia on May 1st, 2004.

LEAVING FRIENDS BEHIND
As many of you may know, I have just recently returned from a six month holiday in Europe. One of the hardest things about going away for such an extended period of time was leaving all my friends behind, shut up in cardboard packing boxes, their limbs bound by bubble wrap and masking tape, locked in a faceless storage facility...

TAAU MEMBER FEATURES IN DREAMWAVE COMIC
In January of this year, TAAU member Ravage posted a superb piece of Transformers fan art on the board. The amazing illustration depicted a lone Beast Wars Megatron standing beneath a colossal G1 Megatron, which very cleverly referenced and paid homage to the classic Planet of the Apes scene showing the Statue of Liberty buried in the sand.
